Root is, of course, a fake name, but it's also the truest one she can give. It's an indication of the seriousness of her interest that she offers it, since Root has several thoroughly crafted fake identities ready on offer at any given time, complete with documentation. Giving her the name Root means she wants to present herself as she really is -- skills and mess and all.

As for the name Claudia... she doesn't make any assumptions just yet.

"Hmm, mostly," she returns thoughtfully. "I need to confirm what he said before I report it to the client. I'll need more time and a better computer than this junker." She flicks a disdainful look at the laptop. "I'd say I care about my reputation as a contractor, but really, I just don't like being wrong."
